GeneralPosted by Puikkomimmi Sat, November 24, 2007 11:56Since this blog isn't working quite good (It's nerve breaking when you write a long post and then it won't post it. And comments aren't possible to enable without password, due to comment spammers.) I've decided to give
blogspot a try. So, welcome there to see what I'm doing!
KnittingPosted by Puikkomimmi Sat, October 20, 2007 10:37As I buy new yarn for new projects, I actually get something done as well. These following projects has been on the needles at the same time and I've been knitting on them according to feeling.
First out is this lovely bolero.

Yarn: Rowan Classic Yarns, Bamboo Soft, light green, 200g
Needles: 3.5mm Addi circular
Pattern: Own, but ideas from
GlampyreThe yarn is probably the softest yarn I've ever had. I bought it this summer during one of my trips to Turku. This is the first work that I've done from the top down and I definitely have to try it more. I also tested to do bust darts and some back darts to get a better fit. In this picture the bolero looks just perfect.

Now when I've weared it once it has streched.

I have to throw it in the wasing mashine and see what gets out... I hope it will turn out right, because I just love it so much.
My next project was a simple scarf and hat for my friend.

Yarn: OnLinie Supersocke Sil, 55% Merinowool, 20% Silk, 25% Polyamid, 150g of each colour, green and white
Needle: For the scarf, 5mm Addi circular and for the hat 4.5mm bamboo circular and 4mm bamboo dpns
Pattern: From the newest Finish magazine, Moda.
It was quite boring to knit these, but they were good to have at hand when I needed some semi-brainless work to do while travelling. First I didin't like these at all, but when my friend put them on herself they looked really nice. And the yarn is fantastically soft and the silk is shining perfectly in these. The fringes my friend did herself and she's planning to do a felted flower for the hat as well. Hope I'll get a picture when these are done and is weared by the owner.

Size: 92cm child
Yarn: Rowan Pure Wool DK, finished weight 195g
Needle: 3mm bamboo circular and dpns
Pattern: Size is taken from an old Moda magazine, rest is my own pattern
I'm sooooo happy about this sweater. It turned out better than planned. Nothing much new with this though, except the neck slit. But that was exciting as well to do. I have some yarn left that I thought I will make a matching cap. Let's see how that turnes out. This yarn is also from one of my trips to Turku. At the same store I found these fun buttons as well.

Round buttons are better for the nerves of the mother, but these are still funny with the little bird.

Eventhough the colours are so 70's I think it will be perfect for this child. She has mostly red and pink clothes, so she definitely needs some other colours in her life. And her mother is a passionate hiker and hunter so I tried to find forest colours.
Last but not least I needed some mittens for myself. The other ones are some old bought mittens that my mother found in some corner. Now they have a big hole at the thumb. So I hade to knit quickly some simple mittens to keep the cold out of my fingers.

Yarn: Limbo Mexiko Color, Schoeller stahl 57 g
Needle: 2.5mm edelholz dpns

Pattern: Traditional.
Nothing much to say about these. The only new was the increase for the thumb and the edelholz (black hardwood) dpns. Going into use today. From the rest of the yarn I made one about 20x20cm knitted piece for
Vaaka ry. They are collecting 20x20cm pieces for rugs to give to less fortunate children and eldery.
But nothing done if nothing added into the stash. I went with two knitting friends to
Tapion Kauppa in Päntäne. This was my third trip there and OMG! They have enlargened the store. *fainting* And opened a
webshop. They have now over 500 sq meters of yarn... Just look at this.

And of course I had to buy something...

Or a closeup:

The blue-white HipHop yarn is something I got as compliments from Tapio. The brown merino wool yarns at the left will become some lace scarfs. The two grey Tove next to them I have two plans for, Christmas presents. The red alpaca yarns will become something for Christmas parties this year. The grey Lanetts will become a sweater for myself and the white and black Lanetts are also Christmas-presents-to-be. So my stash has more or less grown during these weeks and I have no bigger project on the needles at this time. *shock* But no worries, plans are made. Just have to get myself doing some swatches, calculating and planning.
GeneralPosted by Puikkomimmi Fri, October 05, 2007 14:04On Wednesday while I was boarding a plane back home I managed to fall a couple of stairs and sprained my foot. (Note to myself: Never wear high heels, carry two bags, talk in the phone and walk steep stairs at the same time!) The best part of this whole ordeal is that I got pink crutches.

Yesterday my foot got more swollen and today it's colour is nice pink-blue combination. On top of that I manage to wash all my nicer white underwear to a nice greyish colour. (Isn't grey THE colour at the moment? How lucky I am...) Perhaps I just should go back to bed and do nothing?

However, the knitting is getting along today. I just hope my bad luck won't follow and I have to rip all out...
KnittingPosted by Puikkomimmi Thu, October 04, 2007 18:32I got yesterday a packet from my secret Swedish Knitting pal.

Three skeins of Sarek, made by the Swedish brand Marks&Kattens. Just wonderful 100% wool. The two red skeins of Merino Silk is by the Danish Hjertegarn and is 60% merino wool, 20% silk and 20% bamboo. They are all sooooo lovely. Here's a closeup on the lovely colour of Sarek:

KnittingPosted by Puikkomimmi Sun, September 30, 2007 20:28The past three weeks I've been travelling twice to Helsinki and once to Germany. Next week I have a two day stay in Helsinki planned and a weekend in Turku. Then I'm going to stay put in Vasa for whole two weeks!

But when travelling it is normal to buy souvenirs from places. Right? Specially to oneself?

Well here's a short presentation about my souvenirs from the past trips.

I think I like my souvenirs a lot! The green and off-white skeins in first picture are going to be a scarf and a hat for my friend. The other skeins have nothing decided for them yet. Except for the three in the last picture. They are going to be socks of some sort.

The 70's shirt for my friends baby is going along nicely. Gotten this far now:

So not much left. It will be just the slit at the neck that is something new anymore. I'm quite happy about how this turned out.

And my not-so-bright-pink-kneesocks are finished!

Yarn: Regia 4-fädig Color 2 skeins of colour 5440
Needles: 2.5mm bamboo dpns
Pattern: Basic socks from Interweave Knits Summer 2007 - modified
I used quite much of the Interweave Knits Summer 2007 toe-up sockpattern. Just made the ribbing as *1p, 2stitch cable, 1p, 3k* ribbing. I love these socks. Have to wear some skirts next week so that I can use these at work.
Now I just have to find another work that I can carry on the plane and my other trips. Socks are quite nice small work for travelling and I have a plan already, but they are going to be a christmas present so I can't show them here yet. I also need some mittens for myself. The green bolero has been waiting for me being at home, sharp in my mind, so that I can figure out wheter or not to do some back shaping and when should I start do the button hole and when to start to finish the whole thing off... Hard decisions to make.
KnittingPosted by Puikkomimmi Sun, September 16, 2007 19:04I'm actually reading David Allens book "
Getting things done", but I haven't read so much of it yet. However the core thing with Allens idea is that you should just do things.

And that's what I've done today. The flu is making me restless and playing games on the computer keeps you entertained only so long. I have pulled every yarn skein that I have on the floor (and there they are still) and I've come to the conclusion that I actually have a plan for most of the yarns.

I think I need at least a year of vacation before I've completed even half of the projects.
I also decided to finish some projects. First off is a scarf I started last year. The scarf was almost done; ends weaved in and the pompoms made. So all I had to do today was to fasten the pompoms.

Yarn: Novita Nalle Colori
Model: My own.
I'm especially proud of the cables in this scarf. I managed to figure out how to make cables on one side and still having the backside looking like normal 2x2 rib. Here's a close up on the cables. Hope you can see something of the picture.

The scarf is for my cousine and god daughter that lives in Sudan. This is actually going to be a Christmas Present, but I'm not sure if they are reading my blog "down there", so I think I can post the picture anyway. There is some yarn left, so I might still do a pair of mittens or a headband for her as well.
I've also finished a cape that I started in March/April.

Yarn: Novita Aino, green and multicoloured, about 150g of each colour
Needle: 5mm Addi circular
Model: My own
I'm quite happy about finishing this. It should be just perfect to wear now when the weather is getting colder. It has been almost finished for a long time. You might remeber it from
here. Now it has two buttons and a pair of fingerless mittens to match:

So now I only have five UFO:s of which three are under progress, one I'm going to rip and one is under consideration. I'm quite happy about myself.
